What is a COVID-19 PCR test?
A PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test checks for genetic material (viral RNA) produced by the COVID-19 virus. This determines if an employee is actively infected with COVID-19 and can spread it to others.
How is a COVID-19 PCR test performed?
A PCR test is conducted either by nasal swab or saliva collection. The nasal swab test requires insertion of a swab into the employee's nose and the back of their throat. The saliva test requires providing a sample of spit into a collection tube.
What will COVID-19 PCR test results reveal?
A PCR test will confirm whether or not an employee is currently infected with COVID-19. If the employee's results are positive, it is important for them to limit their exposure to other people and continue to monitor their symptoms. If the employee's results are negative, the virus was not present in the sample they provided. After receiving their results, the employee will have an opportunity to speak with a licensed healthcare provider, who can answer any questions they may have about their test results and help determine next steps in care.
Nationwide Testing Access
PCR testing for active infections of COVID-19 are available nationwide. Test kits can be sent to employer office buildings or offsite testing locations and can be administered by healthcare providers on staff with the employer or by state licensed healthcare providers from Grassroots Labs provider partner organizations.

COVID-19 Antibody / Immune Response Testing
Antibody Testing
Antibody testing detects antibodies created by an employee's body in response to a viral infection. COVID-19 Antibody testing measures the body's response to an infection, like SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), and not the presence of the virus directly.
The presence of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) antibodies in an employee's blood suggests that they have had previous exposure to the virus.
Antibody testing for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) provides valuable information for employers, in conjunction with federal, state and local regulations, in making the decision to bring employees back to work.1
What is the difference between an antibody test and a PCR test?
An antibody test checks to see if an employee has developed IgG antibodies against COVID-19, which occurs after being exposed to the virus. Antibody tests do NOT show whether an employee is currently infected.
PCR tests check for genetic material (viral RNA) produced by the virus. It determines if an employee is currently infected and can spread COVID-19 to others.

Through our clinical lab testing vendor, Quest Diagnostics, Employer customers have access to over 2,500 local testing centers across the US to provide convenient access for their employees to have their blood (serology) COVID-19 antibody test performed.2

On-Site Testing
In addition to convenient access to over 2,500 testing centers operated by Quest Diagnostics, on-site testing is available for employers that want to offer convenient COVID-19 Antibody / Immune Response testing for their employees on their premise. Grassroots Labs can arrange for phlebotomist to be sent to the Employer's office or other set location to provide testing to employees for an immune response to COVID-19.
